What does ‘regular driver’ mean in the motor vehicle insurance world?

This the person that drives your vehicle the most during any monthly period. Another term that insurer’s use is ‘nominated driver.’ The ‘nominated driver’ refers to someone who has your permission to sometimes drive your car.

The difference between a ‘regular driver’ and a ‘nominated driver’ is therefore just that the ‘’regular driver’ drives your car most of the time, while the ‘nominated driver’ only drives your car sometimes.

In the motor vehicle insurance industry, the insurance cover provided and the monthly premium that you would pay for it; is based on the risk profile of this regular driver.

It’s very important that when you take out your insurance policy with any insurer, that you let them know right from the start who the regular driver of your car is, and it has to be noted as such on your policy schedule. Should there be any other people who also drive your car sometimes, then they should be listed as ‘nominated drivers’ on your policy schedule too.
