Driving in heavy rains, on slippery roads with little or no visibility, can be stressful and harmful. A deadly accident can cost you your life or you might end up in a hospital with severe injuries. Additionally, an accident can also damage your vehicle to a great extent. Thus, you should be careful while driving in the rain and while driving on the wet roads, which are usually slippery.
Also, if roads are clogged due to water accumulation, it becomes difficult to spot the potholes and this might cause a dreadful accident. So, if you are driving you should follow some safety precautions, so that you are safe and protected. We bring you some useful driving tips that can help you drive safely in the rainy season. With this, we share with you some simple driving tips that will help you get out of complex situations when you are stuck in rains.
Situation 1: The water level is above the tyre level
Stop driving on flooded roads. In case the water is sucked into the exhaust or washes into the air intake, the car could be stalled. Never start the car by any means as this can cause severe damage to the engine. If the vehicle is submerged in water, an expert technician needs to inspect damages, transmission electrical and electronic components.
Situation 2: The water level is below the tyre height
Shift to first gear. To avoid blockage of silencer by water, press the accelerator to increase engine RPM. In case you need to reduce the speed, instead of reducing the speed, use the clutch. After crossing the flooded area, continue to accelerate the engine to clean the silencer.
Situation 3: The windshield is covered with water
If you are unable to see ahead, turn on the headlights in overcast conditions. Not only will this help you to see the road ahead, but also help other drivers spot you. Replace old wiper blades that don’t clear the water and distort your view. Turn on the demister when the windshield begins to fog due to high humidity and rain. Use rain-repellant products on side windows and mirrors to prevent standing raindrops.
Situation 4: The vehicle is submerged in water for a long time
Replace all the lubricants and fluids, check for proper operations of systems and mechanisms. Apply anti rust and anti-fungal spray for its restoration.
Follow these simple steps to keep yourself and your vehicle safe during this rainy season.
